Convenience Gallery

Convenience is a not for profit, creative arts platform based in Birkenhead, Merseyside.

Started by myself (Andrew Shaw) and Ryan Gauge in 2019, our aim was to create more space, and opportunities for the creative community in the area.

We produce high quality arts and culture programmes to enrich and empower communities. Using our platform to promote and advocate for creative people nationally, and to inspire those in our local area. We run free and affordable events, exhibitions, installations, workshops, labs, creative courses, and artistic support.

We registered as a CIC in 2020, and went on to become an award winning organisation in 2022 winning the Deutsche Bank award for creative entrepreneurs. Receiving funding from Historic England, National Lottery, Kindred LCR, amongst others. We have collaborated with M&S Bank Arena, Division of Labour, East Street Arts, Williamson Art Gallery, Birkenhead Park, Astles, Queensway, and Charities such as Spider Project, Open Door Charity and local combined authority.

As a curatorial project we have now lead over 100 cultural events which include highly successful projects such as:

- In Cahoots, featured here by Corridor 8

- Uncovering Birkenhead Working Class History with Historic England,

- Manchester Contemporary in 2023

Convenience Store.

- The Town is the Gallery

- Birkenhead International Film Festival

In 2024/25 we have been commissioned as core programming for the Wirral Borough of Culture and have been brought onto the R&D steering group for Independents Biennial 2025.
